A billion reasons to believe in Africa (@Cocacola_ng)
Folorunsho Alakija Overtakes Oprah Winfrey as Richest Black Woman in the World
Nigerian billionaire CEO of Famfa Oil, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija has been dubbed as the richest black woman in the world. The Nigerian-born mother of four turned an unwanted oil well into a $10M/day company according to Ventures Africa. An oil well that became so profitable that the Nigerian government demanded a high stake in the company. Through strong will and belief in the Nigerian justice system, this demand was revoked, leaving the oil well to Famfa Oil.
A testament to the extremely hardworking nature of African women, Folorunsho Alakija has proven that with the right amount of knowledge and persistence an AFRICAN can build something out of our very many resources tagged to be supposedly nothing. Even while raising four sons, Mrs. Alakija was able to keep a clear head and fight an oppressive regime while being a mother. Mrs. Alakija isn’t only an inspiration to African women everywhere but to men as well, we shouldn’t have to wait for people to come from outside of our continent to build the continent, we are very much capable.
Folorunsho Alakija gives every one of us a reason to believe in Africa, just the way she did. Coca – cola’s celebrates her today as she is one of #abillionreasonstobelieveinafrica.
